Hiking
Santorini offers some exciting routes for hiking lovers. The most popular one is the caldera hiking trail that starts from the caldera's southernmost end, Akrotiri, and reaches all the way north to Oia. Hikers across the globe dub this popular hiking trail as the Earth's most beautiful hike and for good reasons. While walking along the rim of the volcanic caldera, you'll experience the breathtaking, panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, the Mediterranean islands, and whitewashed, blue-topped Cycladic chapels. This route is suitable for all levels of hikers and lasts approximately 4 hours.
You can start your epic journey from the old mule path that connects Santorini's capital city of Fira to the coastal village of Oia. The path takes you past the village of Imerovigli, which features Cycladic-built homes and structures and the monastery of St. Nicholas. Get your camera ready for Insta-worthy pictures of the views of Thirasia Island from afar as you approach Oia. Enjoy the 360-degree views of the nearby villages, seaside and more as you watch the sunset from the hilltop.
Another interesting hiking route is the one starting from the mountaintop village of Pyrgos Kallistis, passing from the Monastery of Prophitis Ilias and offering picturesque views of the surrounding villages, the sea and skyline. Continue your hike down the path that leads you though Ancient Thera, the Kasteli of Emporio to end at Kamari and Perissa Beach.
